Top Ten….Important UFO Books

So a while back, I got an email from a listener asking what I thought my top ten important UFO books were. Not being one to waste a good idea, I decided that instead of telling them, I’d make it into an episode. I was going to put links to purchase the books here in the show notes, but it’s kind of a spoiler, isn’t it? So you’re on your own! None of these are obscure and I played by the rules of “Important” books rather than “favorite” books, so some of these are not my favorites!

  1. Thanks for supplying a very reasonable, balanced list based on importance.

If you were to extend your list out to 20, would you include Vallee’s Passport to Magonia? It is widely regarded as a seminal work, and presents an angle on UFOs and “the others” that informs an important minority viewpoint on the subject to this day. If so, Vallee would, to his credit, wind up with two entries.

And how about von Däniken’s Chariots of the Gods? It undeniably has had an outsized influence on popular culture ever since it was published, continuing to the present. Even Elon Musk recently tweeted that the pyramids were ‘obviously’ built by aliens.

Note that both of the suggested works deal with UFOs of the very distant past, rather than those observed in the 20th or 21st centuries. This may be a factor in your decision to exclude them from the top 10.

    • I think magonia would def be in a top 20. And probably Däniken as well, under the “important but not good” umbrella! Also, I’d probably have to put something about Roswell in there (ugh).

  2. Thanks for the list! Happily reading Dimensions by Vallee now. I’ve only ever read Passport to Magonia, but I like the bigger overview of Dimensions.
