Welcome to Series 5: The 90s Strike Back! In this episode, we’ll examine the work of Bill Cooper, perhaps the key figure in the blending of UFO and political conspiracy culture in the 1990s. Hang on, this”ll be wild. It’s longer than usual, but I think you’ll find it’s pretty action-packed. Despite the length, we left quite a bit on the cutting room floor. There may be some deleted scenes from this episode that see the light of day, but don’t hold your breath.

I absolutely loved this one. Say what you like about Bill Cooper – he wasn’t boring. A lot of his stories were propagated by his contemporaries in the late oughts on a website I won’t mention, so his legacy is alive and well. And remember, kids – don’t do drugs – or the secret government run by aliens will march you off to a FEMA camp. If that’s not an anti drugs message, then I don’t know what is.

Thanks! Yes, his ideas–especially the appropriated secret society and mythological symbolism stuff–persists.
“Never boring, sometimes tedious” is how I would describe his radio shows 🙂

Pretty good. I listened to a lot of shortwave in the ’90s & was aware of Cooper, although I paid more attention to Bro. Stair, America’ s craziest preacher.

Brother Stair! He was nuts. Ever listen to Al Cuppett? He was only really on other people’s shows but kind of like a cross between Stair and Cooper. Wild stuff.
